The Governor's Small Business Forums are held across the Lone Star State. They are designed to educate the Texas entrepreneur and Texas small business community of the challenges in starting, operating, and growing a business while illuminating the many opportunities, tools, and resources available to the greater small business community. During economically demanding times, small businesses are often the hardest hit due to the lack of readily available capital and financing for their operations and growth. It is common for traditional banks to be less likely to lend to small businesses or start-ups due to the higher risk associated with defaults. There are, however, non-traditional lenders who may be more likely to lend or to offer creative solutions to get small businesses through fiscally tough times.
The Governor's Small Business Forums offer entrepreneurs and small businesses a wealth of knowledge regarding financial options, growth opportunities, and resources available to assist them in their expansion and development needs. The forums help to increase contracting opportunities and awareness for entrepreneurs and small businesses by hosting state agencies and university procurement representatives who showcase current and future contracting opportunities within their respective organizations. Additionally, the forums highlight the wide range of opportunities available to minority and veteran-owned small businesses as well as those businesses interested in expanding globally.
