Texas is a leader in the global marketplace. The State of Texas has led the nation in export revenue for ten consecutive years (2002 – 2011) with a total of $249.86 billion in 2011. Continuing to foster a superior climate for job growth, opportunity and prosperity for the people of Texas are among the top priorities of Governor Rick Perry. Trade benefits small business in Texas; 92 percent of the 26,265 companies that exported goods in 2008 were small and medium-sized enterprises.

Products from the State of Texas are shipped around the globe each year. The state's top value-added exports in 2011 were Petroleum and Coal Products; Chemicals; Computer and Electronics Products; Machinery (non-electrical); and Transportation Equipment. The state's top exporting partners were Mexico, Canada, China (mainland), Brazil, and The Netherlands.
